In a recent report, Il Romanista stated that Aston Villa are in pole position to recruit Roma striker Tammy Abraham in this transfer window. It has been mentioned that the Villans are facing competition in the form of Leicester City in the race to sign the English forward this summer.
Abraham’s Injury Concerns In Italian Football Last Season
Abraham endured a frustrating campaign at the Italian club as he missed a lot of games due to injury. However, he managed to put in a few eye-catching displays for them in the final third. The 26-year-old scored just one and earned one assist in 12 matches for Roma last season across multiple competitions.
The London-born sensation made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why averaged 0.5 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has been woeful when distributing possession in the final third, based on his pass success rate of 51.4% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2026. Therefore, it won’t be easy for the Villans to recruit him on the cheap later this year.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Snap Abraham Up This Summer?
Abraham can create some space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He can create the odd chance for his teammates up top and is a powerful runner with the ball. However, the English talent has to find a way to stay injury-free if he wants to get his career back on track.
Abraham knows Aston Villa well from his previous loan spell with them and won’t take much time to settle into life at Villa Park. We can expect him to bring more firepower to Unai Emery’s attack. He is good enough to play an important role in the West Midlands club‘s squad in the coming seasons.
At 26, Abraham has his best years ahead of him and could be a decent signing for the Villans this summer. He would help Aston Villa cope with fixture congestion better in the future. Therefore, Emery would be wise to snap him up before the end of this transfer window.
