In a recent interview with Playback, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Arsenal could move in for Napoli centre-forward Victor Osimhen this summer. Romano said,
“In this moment of the market, keep an eye also in England, because Osimhen could be a big possibility. If Napoli changes the price of Victor Osimhen, there could be a possibility for other clubs to enter. For example, Manchester United are looking for a striker. We know about Joshua Zirkzee and this battle with Milan, but also Arsenal are looking for a striker. Will they go for a striker? Will they go for a winger? What they decide to do in terms of plan? Keep an eye on many clubs for Victor Osimhen.”
Osimhen’s Impressive Run Of Form In Serie A
Osimhen had a decent campaign at the Italian club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Nigerian forward registered 17 goals and picked up four assists in 32 appearances for Napoli last season in multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old led the line well for the Italian club and deserves some credit for averaging 3.6 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he lacked quality when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 81% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Will Osimhen Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Team?
Osimhen is proficient at finding some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a deadly finisher in the final third and can even create the odd chance for his teammates on the offensive third of the pitch.
The Nigeria international is a powerful runner with the ball and can use his strong 1.86m frame to hold possession for his team in the opposition half. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play up top.
We can expect Osimhen to add more quality to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s first XI. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Emirates Stadium next season. Therefore, the North London club would be wise to bring him on board this summer.
