In a recent report, The Daily Mirror stated that Arsenal are close to recruiting Espanyol keeper Joan Garcia. It is believed that the Gunners are set to beat Real Madrid in the race to acquire the Spanish custodian’s services this summer.
Garcia’s Decent Run Of Form In La Liga 2 Last Season
Garcia managed to catch the eye with his performances in between the sticks for Espanyol in La Liga 2 last season. The 23-year-old made 21 appearances for the Spanish outfit in the previous campaign, conceding ten goals and keeping 12 clean sheets across all fronts.
The Spanish talent came through Espanyol’s youth system and has established himself as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Spanish football. However, he is still quite raw and would need more time to prove his worth in top-flight football.
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, the Gunners would have to make a convincing offer if they want to bring Garcia to the Emirates Stadium this off-season.
What Will Garcia Bring To Arsenal?
Garica can be a safe pair of hands in goal for his team when he is playing well on the field. He can use his quick reflexes to make a few important saves at the back and is a good handler of the ball as well. Standing at 1.91m, Garcia is a strong presence in the air.
The Spanish sensation doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level but has got the potential to become a top keeper someday.
We can expect Garcia to bring more quality and depth to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s match-day squad. He is good enough to serve as an ideal understudy to David Raya at the Emirates Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 23, the future looks quite bright for Garcia as long as he continues to develop with each year. Hence, he would be a great, long-term signing for the Gunners to pull off in this summer transfer period. However, it remains to be seen whether Garcia can cope with the high intensity of Premier League football if Arsenal manage to land him this off-season.
