In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that West Ham United are working on a move to recruit Hull City star, Jacob Greaves. It has been claimed that the Hammers are hoping to get the English talent on board in the upcoming transfer window.
Greaves’ Decent Form In The EFL Championship
Greaves has put in a run of impressive displays at the centre of Hull’s defence this season. The English defensive ace deserves some credit for chipping in by scoring two goals and grabbing four assists in 43 matches for the English club during this campaign across various competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a decent performer on the defensive end of the field as he is averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 4.3 clearances per game in the EFL Championship. He has also been accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass completion rate of 88.9% in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Hull will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, West Ham would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting Greaves later this year.
Is Greaves A Good Fit For West Ham United?
Greaves loves a tackle and can read the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his team when defending inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his towering 1.93m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.
The English sensation is also proficient at playing his way out from the back. He is primarily a central defender but can also operate as a left-back if told to do so. We can expect him to inject more bite and steel into West Ham‘s defence.
Greaves might even help the Hammers challenge for European football once again in the coming seasons. At 23, he has a very promising future in English football. Thus, the East London club should focus on getting a deal done for him as he would be a good fit for their defensive needs in the long run. However, there are some concerns over whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football.
