In a recent tweet, journalist Sebastiao Sousa Pinto revealed that West Ham United are working on a deal to land Vitoria Guimaraes winger Jota Silva. It has been claimed that the Hammers are close to recruiting the Portuguese wide player in the upcoming transfer window.
Jota’s Impressive Run Of Form In Portuguese Football
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Liga Portugal club as he has managed to catch the eye for them in the final third. Silva has found the back of the net 15 times and picked up seven assists in 42 matches for Vitoria Guimaraes this season across multiple competitions.
The Portuguese talent has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 2.9 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Liga Portugal. However, he needs to take care of the ball when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 67.4% of his attempted passes in the Portuguese top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Portuguese club will run out at the end of next season. Hence, it makes sense for West Ham to try and attempt to sign him on the cheap in the summer.
Is Silva A Decent Signing For West Ham United?
Silva doesn’t mind working hard for his team defensively and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range.
The Portugal international can even create some decent chances for others around him in the opponent’s half. However, he needs to work on improving his passing accuracy if he wants to make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.
We can expect Silva to add more firepower to West Ham’s frontline. He has what it takes to secure a regular first-team spot at the London Stadium next season. At 24, Silva has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a great signing for the Hammers to pull off in the summer. However, the East London club would have to be a little patient with his progress before they can get the best out of the gifted wide player.
