In a recent print edition, Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Liverpool for Barcelona winger Raphinha this summer. It has been stated that Spurs are showing interest in recruiting the Brazilian wide layer later this year.
Raphinha’s Decent Numbers In Spanish Football
Raphinha has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Catalan club as he has managed to put in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Brazilian talent has participated in 35 matches for Barca this season, scoring nine goals and picking up 12 assists on all fronts.
The 27-year-old has been a consistent performer out in the wide areas based on his average of 2.0 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been careful when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after making 80.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Nou Camp will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Spurs to win the race for his services on the cheap in the upcoming transfer period.
Is Raphinha A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
Raphinha can use his pace to cause some headaches for his marker out in the wide areas. He is a good dribbler with the ball and has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates in and around the opposition penalty box. The Brazilian sensation can shoot the ball with venom and precision from long range. He is primarily a right-winger but can also function as a left-sided wide player if told to do so.
We can expect Raphinha to bring more pace and goals to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He is good enough to help Spurs challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League next season.
At 27, Raphinha is playing in his prime and has got the experience to make an immediate impact at the North London club if Postecoglu can devise a way to snap him up later this year.
All in all, Raphinha would be a great option for Tottenham to consider at the end of this campaign as he is more than capable of earning a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.
