In a recent report, Sport Bible revealed that a second Premier League team could be in danger of a massive points deduction ahead of the 2024-25 season. Leicester City managed to earn a promotion back to the Premier League recently but could be deducted between six to 15 points for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules over a three-year period ending in 2022-23 (via The Telegraph).
However, the Foxes are not the only ones at risk of a huge points deduction. It is believed that Everton are in real danger of being handed a similar punishment unless they manage to balance their books by cashing in on some of their star players.
However, the Toffees would have to do so before June 30 when the club’s financial year and the three-year Profit and Sustainability period comes to an end. The Merseyside club received an eight-point deduction last season for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules after they lost £371.8m over a three-year period.
Everton’s current financial situation is quite alarming and their fears have only gotten worse after the apparent collapse of the £500m takeover by 777 Partners.
At the moment, the Merseyside club find themselves £583m in debt. The Toffees need to raise at least £200m if they plan to complete the club’s new £750m Bramley Moore Dock Stadium.
If Everton are unable to turn their situation around before the end of next month, then it is quite likely that the English club will enter administration. Sean Dyche’s men could begin the new Premier League campaign with an automatic nine-point deduction.
Hence, the Toffees have got no choice but to cash in on some of their star players like Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite, Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they are to get out of financial trouble this summer.
