In a recent report, AS (via Sport Witness) mentioned that Real Madrid have identified Manchester City star Rodri as a target for the upcoming transfer window. It has been revealed that Los Blancos are eyeing the Spanish midfielder as a replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement recently.
Rodri’s Excellent Season At The Etihad Stadium
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a fine campaign at the Mancunian club as he has put in a lot of influential displays at the heart of Pep Guardiola’s midfield. Rodri has been involved in 49 matches for Man City this season, scoring nine goals and grabbing 14 assists on all fronts.
The Spanish midfield ace has been a good performer at both ends of the field and deserves credit for averaging 2.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.8 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 92.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Rodri is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027. Hence, Real Madrid would have to launch a big offer if they are serious about recruiting the Spaniard at the end of this campaign.
What Will Rodri Add To Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti’s Team?
Rodri loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and remains a tidy passer of the ball. Rodri mainly operates as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a centre-back if needed.
The Spanish talent can even strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He has also got the eye to play some decisive passes in the opponent’s half and is a good dribbler with the ball as well.
We can expect Rodri to add more quality to Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield department. He has got the experience and winning mindset to help Los Blancos challenge for plenty of major honours over the next few years.
At 27, Rodri is about to enter his prime which makes him a great choice for the Madrid giants to consider when the transfer window commences later this summer.
