In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Xavi Simons, who spent this season on loan at RB Leipzig, prefers to join Barcelona this summer. It has been claimed that the Catalan club would have to rival RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United in pursuit of the Dutch attacker later this year.
Simons’ Impressive Loan Spell At The Red Bull Arena
Simons has enjoyed a great loan spell at RB Leipzig after he produced a string of impressive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. The Dutch talent has participated in 43 matches for the German club this season, scoring ten goals and picking up 15 assists in multiple competitions.
The 21-year-old has been a decent contributor in the final third based on his average of 2.5 shots, 2.5 key passes and 2.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga football. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball after making 82% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
Simon is under contract at his parent club Paris Saint-Germain until the summer of 2027, so Barca would have to make a big offer if they want to land him in the upcoming transfer window. Another option for Xavi would be to consider a loan move for the Dutch sensation this summer.
Is Simons A Dream Choice For Barcelona?
Simons is a good dribbler with the ball and can create a few decent chances for others around him in the final third. He can strike the ball purely from long-range and can chip in by scoring and assisting his fair share of goals in the opponent’s half.
The Amsterdam-born playmaker is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also serve as a wide player on either flank if asked to do so. He is good enough to nail down a regular starting spot at Barcelona if the Catalan club can find a way to bring him on board later this summer.
At 21, Simons has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, he would be a dream choice for Barca to consider when the transfer window commences next month. However, the Catalan giants would have to be patient with his progress before they can get the best out of the gifted youngster in the future.
