In a recent report, The Evening Standard claimed that Newcastle United are leading the race for Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale. It has been stated that the Magpies are the frontrunners to secure the services of the English goalie this summer.
Ramsdale’s Lack Of Game Time In English Football
Ramsdale has struggled to earn a regular run of games for the Gunners this season as he has often found himself behind David Raya in Mikel Arteta’s pecking order. The English talent has only made 11 appearances for Arsenal during this campaign, conceding 12 goals and securing three clean sheets in various competitions.
The 25-year-old has done well to average 0.5 clearances and 3.8 long balls per game in Premier League football. However, he has lacked quality when distributing possession from the back after completing 65.2% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the North London club will run out in the summer of 2026. However, Newcastle would be wise to launch a move to bring Ramsdale on board this summer as Eddie Howe has got the luxury to offer him a regular starting spot at the Tyneside club.
Is Ramsdale A Good Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Ramsdale can be a good shot-stopper at the back as he can use his quick reflexes to make a few solid saves for his team. He is a decent handler of the ball as well but has to find a way to improve his ball distribution from the back.
We can expect Ramsdale to enhance the quality of Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s squad. He has what it takes to challenge Nick Pope for a regular starting role at St. James’ Park in the coming seasons.
Ramsdale would also serve as an ideal replacement for Martin Dubravka at the Tyneside club. At 25, he has got his best years ahead of him which makes him an excellent option for the Magpies to pursue in the summer transfer window.
Ramsdale already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at Newcastle if Howe can devise a way to get a deal done for him before the start of the new campaign.
