In a recent report, Sky Germany mentioned that Manchester United are facing stiff competition for Schalke starlet Assan Ouedraogo. It has been revealed that the Red Devils would have to rival Red Bull Leipzig, Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart and Atalanta in the race to land the German midfielder this summer.
Ouedraogo’s Impressive Rise In German Football
Ouedraogo has caught the eye with his performances at the centre of Schalke’s midfield this season. The German talent has done well to find the back of the net twice and secure two assists in 16 appearances for the German club during this campaign across various competitions.
The 17-year-old has proven his worth at times in the middle of the park by averaging 0.9 shots and 1.8 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga 2. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 78.3% of his attempted passes in the second tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2027. Thus, the Red Devils would have to launch a convincing offer if they want to win the race to recruit the gifted prospect later this year.
Manchester United Are Facing Tough Competition For Ouedraogo: Is He Worth The Fight?
Ouedraogo is a good tackler of the ball and can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. He is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and can chip in by scoring and creating some important goals for his team from midfield.
However, the German whizkid is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level. Still, there is no denying that he would be a welcome addition to Man United‘s squad in the long run.
At 17, Ouedraogo is a prospect to watch out for in the future. Hence, he would be well worth the fight, so the Red Devils should focus on going all out to lure him to Old Trafford when the transfer window commences later this summer. However, the gifted midfield ace might need some time to adjust to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Man United manage to win the race for his services this year.
