According to HITC, Manchester City have established contact with ex-player and Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong. The Premier League club are in talks over a possible move as they want to add the player to their ranks ahead of next season.
Jeremie Frimpong has been brilliant for Bayer Leverkusen
Jeremie Frimpong started his career at Manchester City before leaving the club in search of game time. After a short spell at Celtic, he signed for Bayer Leverkusen in the winter window of 2021. Since then, he has emerged as an elite player for the German club.
Frimpong has played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s success in the ongoing campaign. He has featured in 44 games, netting 14 goals and providing 12 assists. He is averaging 1.9 shots, 1.4 key passes, and 1.5 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Dutch right-back is an attack-minded defender, who likes to join the offense whenever his team is in possession. He has raw pace and incredible dribbling skills, which allows him to contribute firmly in both defence and attack. He is still young and can add more features to his game.
Will Manchester City beat the competition?
Manchester City’s interest in Jeremie Frimpong is understandable as Kyle Walker has entered the twilight of his career. Though it won’t be easy to fill the veteran’s shoes, the ex-city player has the potential to perform the role with utmost perfection.
Frimpong has similar traits to Walker, however, one may question the quality. With great pace and an attacking mindset, the youngster would be a good fit in Pep Guardiola‘s side. He has a release clause of £34 million, which shouldn’t be an issue for the cash-rich club.
From Frimpong’s point of view as well, he might cherish returning to his old club. However, the Citizens will face competition from the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Aston Villa for the signing.
