In a recent report, The Daily Star mentioned that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon. It has been claimed that the Reds are eager to acquire the services of the English wide player later this summer.
Gordon’s Impressive Season At St. James’ Park
Gordon is having a decent campaign at the Tyneside club as he has managed to put in a lot of influential displays on the left side of Eddie Howe’s attack. The 23-year-old has banged in 11 goals and grabbed 11 assists in Newcastle this season across various competitions.
The English talent has been a consistent performer on the left flank and deserves credit for averaging 2.3 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has also been accurate when distributing the ball in the opposition half after completing 82.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at St. James’ Park will run out in the summer of 2026. Therefore, the Reds would have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting the English wing wizard in the upcoming transfer window.
What Will Gordon Bring To Liverpool?
Gordon can use his quickness to make a few dangerous runs with the ball on the left flank. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field and can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range.
The English winger has done well to chip in by scoring and creating a lot of goals for the Magpies this season. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also serve as a right-winger or play as a striker down the middle if needed.
Gordon will bring more pace and goals to Liverpool‘s attack in the post-Jurgen Klopp era. He has what it takes to offer some healthy competition for Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez at the Merseyside club in the coming years.
At 23, Gordon’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the Reds to consider at the end of this campaign. He has already proven himself to be a consistent performer in Premier League football and won’t take much time to adapt to life at Liverpool.
