According to Spanish outlet Marca, Premier League club Liverpool are considering making a move for Barcelona’s midfielder Pedri in the summer after reports emerged that the Spanish giant are ready to cash in on the gifted player.
The rise of Pedri
Pedri joined Barcelona in 2019 from Las Palmas for an initial fee of €5 million. In the next season, he made his senior team debut and since then, he has etched a story for himself. In no time, not only did he manage to impress the management but he also cemented his position in the lineup.
The Spanish midfielder’s control on the ball is commandable. He is known for his passing and creativity in the final third. He has also worked on his physicality in recent years, allowing him to compete better in the middle of the park.
Pedri had to miss out on many games due to injuries. However, he featured in 29 games this season, netting two goals and providing five assists. He is averaging 0.5 shots, 1.2 key passes, and 0.8 dribbles per game with a passing accuracy of over 87% (stats via whoscored).
Barcelona are open to offloading Pedri
Though Barcelona have turned down multiple interests for Pedri in the past, the Spanish club have reportedly changed their mind. It seems like they are now open to cashing in on the player to sponsor other deals in the summer.
Pedri’s struggle with injuries over the past few seasons has done no good. Moreover, his progress hasn’t been as good as the club had thought. Hence, Barcelona are willing to offload him to raise funds to sign impactful players for Xavi.
The situation hasn’t gone unnoticed. Liverpool are looking to acquire his services as Thiago Alcantara will leave as a free agent in the summer and Ryan Gravenberch has failed to perform well ever since his arrival in the summer of 2023. Apart from the Reds, Arsenal are also interested in the player.
