Title winners Celtic aimed for another win against Old Firm rivals Rangers when they locked horns at Hampden Park for the Scottish Cup final. They have won thrice and drawn once in four league meetings, and the streak continued this afternoon when they clinched an edgy 1-0 win, thanks to a late winner from Adam Idah.
Below are the Celtic players rated in their 1-0 win against Rangers.
Joe Hart: 7
Made some decent saves but was lucky not to concede when VAR controversially ruled out Abdallah Sima’s goal for a push on the custodian by Nicolas Raskin. However, a perfect finish to an illustrious career as the veteran Englishman kept a clean sheet en route to clinching the season’s second silverware.
Alistair Johnston: 7
Made some timely overlapping runs, whipped in crosses and created chances in the attacking third. Did well to contain Fabio Silva who failed to make a significant impact from the flank.
Cameron Carter-Vickers: 7.5
Solid in deep defence. Played it out from the back, made an array of recoveries and won the majority of duels. The Rangers’ attack failed to pose any significant threat beating the Hoops’ defence.
Liam Scales: 7.5
Did well to partner with the USMNT international in the heart of the backline. Showed his aerial strength and passing skills while building the game up from the deep.
Greg Taylor: 7
Another balanced performance from the left fullback whose presence restricted James Tavernier’s runs and attacking composure. Not only did he shield the defence but also linked up well with Maeda and Hatate.
Callum McGregor: 7
Apart from a first-half booking, the skipper controlled the game well from the base with his tackles and interceptions. His vision and distribution often helped the Bhoys convert defence into attacking threats.
Matt O’Riley: 6.5
Not as decisive as he has been so far this campaign. But his presence and ball-carrying traits saw them dominate the midfield battle.
Reo Hatate: 6.5
Started the game well but was running out of ideas after the break. Brendan Rodgers brought in Paulo Bernardo late in the game who played a crucial role in the Cup-winning goal.
James Forrest: 6
Looked lethal from the right-hand side on a few occasions when he played some through balls and crosses inside the box. Made way for Nicolas Kuhn around the 72nd-minute mark.
Daizen Maeda: 6.5
His usual work rate and directness saw him staying on the pitch despite lacking the cutting edge high up the pitch.
Kyogo Furuhashi: 5.5
Little effective while spearheading the attack and the gaffer brought in Idah around the hour mark who eventually scored the last-gasp winner.
Celtic Subs vs Rangers
Adam Idah: 7.5
A poacher’s goal from the Norwich City loanee who capitalized on Jack Butland’s mistake to secure this prestigious trophy.
Nicolas Kuhn: 6.5
Added flair and freshness down the wide since replacing Forrest for the final 20 minutes of the contest.
Paulo Bernando: 7
His effort from the distance was spilt by Butland. Idah made no mistake in firing it into the back of the net.
