In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Barcelona have an agreement in place to land Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez. It is believed that the Catalan club has verbally agreed on a deal with the Argentine talent which will see him move to the Nou Camp until 2027.
Rodriguez’s Impressive Form In La Liga This Season
The 30-year-old is having a solid campaign at the Spanish club as he has put in a run of dominant performances for them in the middle of the park. Rodriguez has registered two goals and picked up one assist in 27 matches for Real Betis this season on all fronts.
The Argentine midfield ace has given a good account of himself at the centre of the park based on his average of 2.0 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.8 clearances per game in La Liga. He has also been excellent when distributing possession from midfield after making 85.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Rodriguez’s current contract at the Spanish club will expire at the end of this campaign. Hence, it is no surprise that Barcelona are trying to sign him on a free transfer later this year.
Barcelona Have An Agreement In Place To Land Rodriguez: Decent Choice For Xavi?
Rodriguez is a tough-tackling midfielder who can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is a good passer of the ball as well.
The Argentine sensation mainly functions as a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if needed. We can expect him to bring more bite and steel to Barcelona boss Xavi’s midfield department. He is good enough to help the Catalan club compete across all competitions over the next few years.
Hence, Rodriguez could be a good, short-term choice for Barca to consider this summer. At 30, he is on an expiring contract and might have a few good seasons left in him to play at a high level. Therefore, Barcelona would be wise to snap him up on a free transfer in the upcoming transfer period.
