In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona could cash in on Andreas Christensen in the upcoming transfer window. It is understood that the Catalan club might opt to let the Danish centre-back leave as they look to raise some funds this summer.
Christensen’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football
Christensen has experienced a solid campaign at the Nou Camp as he has managed to produce a series of dominant performances at the heart of Xavi’s defence. The Denmark international has featured in 41 matches for Barca this season, finding the back of the net three times and picking up a couple of assists in various competitions.
The 28-year-old has been a decent performer on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 1.3 clearances per game in La Liga. He has also been tidy when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 94.2% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Christensen’s current contract at the Catalan club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, Barcelona head coach Xavi has no immediate need to cut him loose when the transfer window reopens later this summer.
However, Barca are in dire need to raise funds if they want to strengthen their squad. Letting Christensen leave for the right price could help them do so ahead of the new campaign.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Let Christensen Go?
Christensen loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and excels at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.87m, Christensen can be a dominant presence in the air as well when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so by his manager.
Christensen remains a useful presence in Xavi’s match-day squad. However, Barcelona‘s financial concerns could see them cash in on the experienced centre-half in the upcoming transfer window. Barca can benefit from using the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen their squad even further later this year. All in all, Xavi should consider letting Christensen go this summer.
