In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona are hoping to get a deal done for Manchester City star Bernardo Silva. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Portugal international this summer.
Silva’s Impressive Form In The Premier League
Silva is enjoying his football at the Mancunian club as he has managed to put in a series of influential displays for Man City in the final third. The Portuguese talent has played in 44 matches for the Mancunian club this season, scoring 11 times and earning six assists across all fronts.
The 29-year-old has been a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.0 shots, 1.9 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has also been excellent when distributing the ball after completing 89% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Silva is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for Barca to land him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Is Silva A Good Choice For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Silva can make a few driving runs with the ball in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He has also got the eye to set up some inviting chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field.
The Portuguese sensation can shoot the ball with venom and precision from long range. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so.
We can expect Silva to bring more firepower to Barcelona head coach Xavi’s frontline. He has what it takes to nail down a regular playing role at the Nou Camp next season. At 29, Silva is still playing in his prime and could help the Catalan club compete for some major honours over the next few years.
Therefore, he would be an excellent choice for Barca to pursue in the short term. However, Xavi might be better off opting for someone younger if he is looking to build a strong squad for the future.
