In a recent report, Foot Mercato stated that Aston Villa are in the running for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler. It has been stated that the Villans are eyeing a move to bring the Spanish talent to Villa Park this summer.
Soler’s Season Of Mixed Emotions In French Football
The 27-year-old has experienced an up-and-down season at the French club as he struggled to nail down a regular starting spot for them in Ligue 1. Soler has made 28 appearances for PSG this season, netting two goals and picking up four assists in various competitions.
The Valencia-born midfield ace has seen a lot of his playing minutes come off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.6 tackles, 0.6 shots and 0.8 key passes per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 87.5% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Paris Saint-Germain will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for the Villans to get a deal done for him on the cheap later this year.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Get Soler On Board?
Soler doesn’t mind getting stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. He can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the opponent’s half.
The Spaniard mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can also play in the number ten position or as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager. We can expect him to enhance the quality of Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s midfield department.
At 27, Soler is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for the Villans to pursue this summer. Plus, he has got some valuable experience in the UEFA Champions League under his belt and could help the West Midlands club challenge in Europe next season. With all things considered, Emery would be wise to try everything in his power to get Soler on board when the transfer window reopens next month.
