In a recent segment on BBC Radio Five Live, pundit and former Premier League footballer Nigel Reo-Coker tipped Arsenal to move in for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer. Reo-Coker said,
“Isak would fit Arsenal better because of his style. He is more suited to a professional style in the sense how Mikel Arteta wants to play.
“Odegaard would feed him tremendously. I love Ivan Toney. What Ivan Toney reminds me of which I like is the individuality, that individual flair, street baller, playing like how I grew up playing cage football, Ivan Toney has that.
“But I think Isak would fit better with Mikel Arteta’s style and system which makes more sense as well.”
Isak’s Impressive Form In Premier League Football
Isak is enjoying a productive campaign at the Tyneside club after he put in a string of impressive displays as the focal point of Eddie Howe’s attack. The Swedish striker has banged in 24 goals and grabbed one assist in 39 appearances for Newcastle this season across all competitions.
The 24-year-old has led the line well for the Magpies as he is averaging 2.6 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 80.1% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Snap Isak Up This Summer?
Isak can create a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a deadly finisher in the final third and can make a few driving runs with the ball up top. The Swedish centre-forward has got the eye to set up a few promising chances for his teammates in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He is primarily a striker but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if told to do so.
We can expect Isak to add more pace and goals to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s frontline. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming seasons.
Therefore, Arteta should think about going all out to snap Isak up in the summer transfer window. He has already proven himself to be a prolific goal-getter in Premier League football and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Emirates Stadium.
