In a recent print edition, Sport (via Sport Witness) claimed that Arsenal are set to rival Bayern Munich for Red Bull Leipzig talent Xavi Simons who is currently playing on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. It has been stated that the Gunners have asked about the Dutch attacker ahead of a potential move for him this summer.
Simons’ Impressive Form In The Bundesliga
The 21-year-old is having a decent loan spell at the German club after putting in a string of impressive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. Simons has made 42 appearances for his current employers this season, finding the back of the net nine times and securing 15 assists across all fronts.
The Dutch playmaker has been a consistent performer for his team in the final third and has done well to average 2.6 shots, 2.5 key passes and 2.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even distributed possession with conviction in the opponent’s half after making 82.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
Simons’ current contract at his parent club Paris Saint-Germain will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, the Gunners would have to make a big offer if they are serious about signing the Dutch sensation in the upcoming transfer window.
Is Simons A Good Fit For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Simons can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the eye to create some inviting chances for others around him in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom and precision from long range.
The Dutch talent is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a wide player on either flank if told to do so. We can expect Simons to inject more quality and depth into Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s first team. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting role at the Emirates Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 21, Simons has got the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, he would be a good fit for the North London club‘s needs in the long run. Therefore, the Gunners should focus on getting a deal done for Simons at the end of this campaign.
