Premier League side West Ham United want to add Everton emerging star Amadou Onana to their ranks ahead of next season. The club will have to spend over £60 million for the midfielder, as per a report published in Football Insider.
The rising career of Amadou Onana
Amadou Onana represented Hamburger SV and Lille before signing for Everton in the summer of 2022 for a reported fee of £33m. The deal turned out to be a good one as the player has managed to live up to the expectations.
The Belgian player has emerged as an integral part of the side. He has featured in 31 games this season so far, netting thrice and providing one assist. He is averaging 2.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, and 1 clearance per game (stats via whoscored).
Onana plays as a defensive midfielder and has all the traits needed to master the position. He is superb at reading the game and tackling whenever required. His dominance in aerial duels helps the side in the middle of the park. The youngster also stays focused and maintains high intensity throughout the game.
Should West Ham United pay £60 million?
West Ham United are having a decent season, standing seventh in the Premier League points table with 45 points after 31 rounds of play. They understand the opportunity to fight for the top position if they reinforce their unit for next season.
Hence, the Hammers want to solidify the midfield section with the arrival of Amadou Onana. He has already proved himself in the league and there’s no reason why he cannot perform for bigger clubs. Being just 22 years old, he is likely to improve with experience and coaching.
It means the Belgian could be a long-term investment for the club. Moreover, Everton are fighting for survival in the league and if they face relegation, Onana’s departure will be inevitable. Notably, Arsenal and Barcelona could give tough competition to West Ham United for his signature.
