In a recent report, The Daily Express claimed that West Ham United are keeping tabs on Vitoria Guimaraes winger Jota Silva. It has been stated that the Hammers are locked in a three-way battle with Brighton and Hove Albion and Fulham in the race to land the Portuguese wide player in the summer.
Silva’s Impressive Form In Portuguese Football This Season
The 24-year-old is enjoying an impressive campaign at the Portuguese club as he has been responsible for putting in a string of eye-catching displays on the left side of their attack. Silva has found the back of the net 15 times and picked up seven assists in 38 matches for Vitoria Guimaraes this season in multiple competitions.
The Portuguese talent has been a decent performer in the final third and has done well to average 3.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Liga Portugal. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution after completing just 68.2% of his attempted passes in the Portuguese top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Portuguese club will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for the Hammers to sign him on a cut-price deal later this summer.
Is Silva A Good Fit For West Ham United?
Silva is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field and can even shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
The Portuguese talent mainly functions as a left-winger but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player or play as a striker down the middle if needed. We can expect him to inject more firepower into West Ham‘s attack as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
At 24, Silva has got a lot of room for improvement in his game and could be a real asset at the London Stadium. With all things considered, the Portuguese talent would be a good fit for West Ham‘s needs this summer.
