In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke offered an update on the future of Everton centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It is believed that the Toffees are set to demand a fee over £40m for the English striker this summer.
Calvert-Lewin’s Inconsistent Form At Goodison Park This Season
Calvert-Lewin is having an inconsistent campaign at the Merseyside club but deserves some credit for putting in a few productive displays for them in the final third. The 27-year-old has banged in six goals and grabbed two assists in 33 matches for Everton this season across various competitions.
The Sheffield-born talent has done well to average 2.2 shots and 0.6 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he has lacked accuracy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 55.2% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Merseyside club will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, the Toffees would be wise to cash in on him this summer or else risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Cut Calvert-Lewin Loose This Summer?
Calvert-Lewin can create some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third but needs to find a way to improve his offensive numbers up top.
Standing at 1.89m, the English sensation can use his powerful frame to dominate the opposition defenders in the air when he is playing well on the field. He remains an important member of Everton boss Sean Dyche’s match-day squad.
However, Calvert-Lewin will enter the final year of his contract at the Merseyside club this summer. Thus, the Toffees would be wise to cut him loose later this year and use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement in the upcoming transfer period.
Everton are in dire need of adding more firepower to their attack, so letting Calvert-Lewin leave would be a good option for them if they want to free up some funds to recruit a more capable forward at the end of this campaign.
