In a recent report, Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are in the running to land Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez. It has been claimed that Spurs would have to rival AC Milan and Napoli in the race to land the Mexican striker this summer.
Gimenez’s Impressive Form In The Eredivisie
Gimenez is having a productive campaign at the Dutch club as he has put in a lot of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Mexican talent has been involved in 38 matches for Feyenoord this season, netting 24 goals and earning six assists on all fronts.
The 22-year-old has been a decent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 3.7 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution up top after making just 68.8% of his attempted passes in the Dutch top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Dutch club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Tottenham to get a deal done for him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Is Gimenez A Decent Choice For Tottenham Hotspur?
Gimenez can use his frame to create some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a capable finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third. The Mexican sensation is a good dribbler with the ball as well but needs to figure out a way to improve his link-up play deep inside the opponent’s half.
We can expect Gimenez to bring more firepower to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the North London club next season. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
At 22, Gimenez has got the potential to be a world-class forward someday. Thus, he would be an excellent choice for Spurs to consider when the transfer window commences later this year.
