English club Tottenham Hotspur can send shocking waves across the football fraternity by making a move for Manchester United player Harry Maguire in the summer transfer window, according to a report published in Fichajes.
Boss Ange Postecoglou wants to bring in an experienced defender as Spurs mostly have young names for the centre-back roles. Hence, the think tank has made the veteran Englishman one of the possible targets ahead of next season.
The Revival of Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire has been associated with Manchester United since 2019 and has had many ups and downs. From leading the side to struggling to get a spot in the first-choice XI, he has seen it all. However, things have been getting better for him over the past 12 months.
The English veteran has managed to earn back the faith of Erik ten Hag. Although he hasn’t been an undisputed pick, he has made 25 appearances this season so far, netting two goals and as many assists. He is averaging 0.9 tackles, 1 interception, and 2.9 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
Maguire has seen a surge in form recently and has been a great servant to the club. He is good at reading the game and making crucial interceptions. The English international is also commendable at winning aerial duels and blocking the shots.
Will Harry Maguire be an ideal fit for Spurs’ system?
Tottenham Hotspur want to acquire the services of Harry Maguire due to his vast experience and leadership qualities. His addition to the defensive unit will add much-needed depth. However, getting his signature won’t be easy at all.
Due to his impressive performances recently, Manchester United aren’t actively looking to offload him. Hence, they will demand a premium price for the defender. Moreover, Maguire might not be a perfect fit for Spurs’ playing style.
Ange Postecoglou prefers playing a high backline and therefore, defenders need to be quick. In that regard, the Englishman is relatively slow and doesn’t have the required speed to catch up.
