In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire. It has been stated that Spurs are weighing up a surprise move to sign the English centre-back in the upcoming transfer period.
Maguire’s Recent Form In The Premier League
Maguire has experienced an uneventful season at Old Trafford as he has struggled to earn a regular starting spot in Erik ten Hag’s first team. The England international has been involved in 25 matches for the Red Devils during this campaign, netting two goals and picking up two assists in various competitions.
The 31-year-old has done well to average 0.9 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball well from the back after completing 83.6% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2025 which could open the door for Tottenham to sign him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Move In For Maguire?
On his day, Maguire can still be a solid presence on the defensive end of the field. He is a good tackler of the ball and can make the odd interception for his team. The English talent usually clears his lines when required and can even play his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.94m, Maguire is a strong presence in the air as well. Hence, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Spurs to pull off later this summer. At 31, Maguire has got a wealth of experience in Premier League football and has what it takes to make an instant impact at the North London club if Angelos Postecoglu is willing to put his faith in the player.
The experienced defender would add more quality to Tottenham‘s squad and help them compete across all fronts over the next couple of years. Therefore, it makes sense for Postecoglu to move in for Maguire when the transfer window commences later this year. However, the Man United ace won’t be a long-term fix to Tottenham‘s defensive problems as he is a player on the decline.
