In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs hoping to land Leicester City ace Wilfred Ndidi. It has been stated that Spurs could face competition from Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Brighton and Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers in pursuit of the Nigerian talent in the upcoming transfer window.
Ndidi’s Impressive Form In The EFL Championship
Ndidi has enjoyed a decent campaign at the King Power Stadium after putting in a string of influential displays at the heart of Leicester’s midfield. The Lagos-born midfielder has scored four goals and grabbed six assists in 30 appearances for the Foxes this season in all competitions.
The 27-year-old was a positive influence in both halves as he is averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 1.4 shots and 0.9 key passes per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has also been accurate with his ball distribution based on his pass success rate of 81.4% in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Midlands club will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, it makes sense for Spurs to try and sign him on a free transfer this summer.
Is Ndidi A Decent Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
Ndidi is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and can even shoot the ball with venom from long range. The Nigeria international has even got the vision to play some decisive passes in the opponent’s half. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or as a centre-back if told to do so.
We can expect Ndidi to bring more bite and steel to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield. He has got some experience in Premier League football and shouldn’t take much time to adjust to life at the North London club. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in top-flight football.
At 27, Ndidi is playing in his prime and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at Tottenham. All in all, he would be a great option for Spurs to pursue this summer.
