Premier League club Real Madrid are leading the race for Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz, according to Defensa Central. The club believe the youngster is a generational talent and want to acquire his services in the summer of 2025.
Florian Wirtz has terrific numbers
Florian Wirtz joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 and has taken huge strides in his career since then. He has emerged as one of the hottest young properties across Europe. His impressive performances with the Bundesliga side have attracted interest from elite clubs.
The 20-year-old has featured in 38 games this season, netting 13 goals and providing 18 assists. He is averaging 2.2 shots, 2.6 key passes, and 2.7 dribbles per game. He mainly operates as an attacking midfielder but can also play as a striker (stats via whoscored).
Wirtz is a decisive player in the final third with his creative works. He has great dribbling skills and vision to provide key passes and through balls. He has got strong hold on the ball and can shoot from long range. With more games under his belt, the kid will improve further.
Do Real Madrid need Florian Wirtz?
Real Madrid believe Florian Wirtz could be a future superstar and hence, they want to take advantage of his talent by investing early. The highly rated attacker will cost around €100 million. To rival the signing, Manchester City are also interested in the deal.
But the Whites might find themselves in a better position to sign Wirtz as they plan to bring Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso. The club want to bring in the Spanish tactician as a successor to Carlo Ancelotti, who is expected to leave after another season.
In that case, Alonso can prove to be an influencing figure to bring Wirtz. However, the Spanish giant already have Jude Bellingham operating in that position. Hence, it will be interesting to see if they break the bank to sign the emerging German star or not.
