In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Newcastle United are facing stiff competition for Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Max Kilman. It has been claimed that the Magpies would have to rival Aston Villa, Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign the English centre-back this summer.
Kilman’s Decent Form At Wolves This Season
Kilman has enjoyed a decent campaign at the West Midlands club as he has managed to produce a handful of solid performances for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The English talent has made 36 appearances for Wolves this season, netting two goals and picking up one assist in multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a rock at the back based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 4.7 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 85.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Molineux Stadium will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Magpies to land him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Go For Kilman?
Kilman loves a tackle and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears the danger when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.94m, the English defensive ace can be a strong presence in the air as well. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at Newcastle if Eddie Howe can find a way to get a deal done for him this summer.
At 26, Kilman is about to enter his prime which makes him a good option for the Magpies to consider in the upcoming transfer period. He would bring more bite and steel to Howe’s defence and help the Tyneside club challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. Thus, Newcastle should think about going for Kilman when the transfer window commences later this year.
