In a recent report, Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) stated that Newcastle United are in pole position to sign Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. It has been claimed that the Magpies are eager to bring the Italy international to Tyneside in the summer transfer period.
Chiesa’s Impressive Form In Serie A
Chiesa is enjoying a decent campaign at the Turin club after he put in a handful of impressive performances on the left side of their frontline. The Italian talent has participated in 30 matches for Juve this season, netting eight goals and grabbing two assists in the process across various competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a decent performer in the final third as he is averaging 2.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opposition half based on his pass completion rate of 77% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2025 which could open the door for Newcastle to bring him on board for a reduced fee at the end of this campaign.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Snap Chiesa Up This Summer?
Chiesa is a decent dribbler with the ball and can make some promising runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates up top.
The Italy international can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of goals for his team. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function on the right wing or play as a forward down the middle if needed.
Chiesa would bring a lot of firepower to Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe’s frontline. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting role at St. James’ Park next season. At 26, Chiesa is about to enter his prime which makes him a good option for the Magpies to pursue in the summer.
The Italian talent might even help the Tyneside club cope with fixture congestion better in the coming years. Therefore, Howe would be wise to go all out to snap him up later this year.
