Aston Villa took a toll on their hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season as they faced a 1-4 defeat at the hands of Manchester City. Their last defeat has given a clear opportunity to Tottenham Hotspur to bank on and take the fourth position in the points table.
The Villans are currently fourth in the domestic table with 59 points after 31 rounds of play. Spurs, on the other hand, have 57 points but a game advantage. Hence, Aston Villa cannot afford to drop any further points. They will next host Brentford at the Villa Park this weekend.
4-4-2 Aston Villa Predicted Lineup Vs Brentford
Defence
Emiliano Martinez couldn’t participate against Manchester City due to illness but should be fit enough to start this game. Robin Olsen tried his best between the sticks but will return to the bench. Right-back Ezri Konsa did fine in his previous outing and should be in the starting XI.
While Diego Carlos continues as the centre-back, Clement Lenglet is likely to make way for Pau Torres. Even Alex Moreno, who was used as a substitute against the Citizens, should be starting as the left-back, replacing Lucas Digne.
Midfield
Too many changes as Youri Tielemans returns in the midfield in place of Tim Iroegbunam and will accompany Douglas Luiz, who is likely to be retained. John McGinn has served the three-match suspension and is expected to return to his original spot.
Even Leon Bailey is in line to start the game. McGinn and Bailey will be deploayed on the flanks as usual.
Attack
Aston Villa will continue to operate without the services of Ollie Watkins, who has a hamstring injury. Hence, the duo of Moussa Diaby and Jhon Duran in the front remains intact.
Tyrone Mings (knee), Boubacar Kamara (knee), Emiliano Buendia (knee), Matty Cash (thigh) and Jacob Ramsey (ankle) are the other notable absentees for this clash.
