Premier League club Manchester United are interested in signing Nottingham Forest defender Murillo in the summer, according to Mundo Deportivo. The former club believe he could be a great addition to the defensive pack ahead of the next season.
Murillo has done well in the Premier League this term
After plying his trade for multiple clubs at the youth level, Murillo signed for Nottingham Forest last summer for an undisclosed fee. He immediately made his presence felt with consistent performances. He has emerged as one of the best defenders in the league this season.
The 21-year-old defender has featured in 31 games and provided two assists. He is averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, and 5.7 clearances per game. He has good skills on the ball, unlike many other players who operate in the same position (stats via whoscored).
Murillo likes to clear the ball out of defence and send long passes to build attacks. He is extremely good at blocking the ball and maintaining high intensity throughout the game. However, there is room to improve his passing accuracy.
Tussle for Murillo’s signature
Manchester United are having a dismal campaign and are unlikely to earn a spot in any European competition for next season. They understand the urgent need to reinforce the squad to be able to fight for trophies and put the club back on the top.
One of the areas where they have suffered badly is defence. Multiple injuries throughout the season only made things worse. With uncertainty looming over the futures of Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans, the Red Devils need to sign fresh defenders.
The alleged interest in Murillo is a step in that direction. The Brazilian defender has already proven his potential in the English. He could be a long-term investment for the club. However, United aren’t alone keen on signing the youngster. The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Liverpool are also keeping tabs.
