Premier League club Manchester City have been linked with RB Leipzig attacker Dani Olmo for some time now. The former club want to acquire his services in the summer transfer window and are leading the race, as per a report by BILD.
Dani Olmo is a versatile attacker
After playing his early football at Barcelona’s youth academy, Dani Olmo played for Dinamo Zagreb before RB Leipzig signed him in 2020. With consistently impressive performances, he managed to win the faith of the management and has become a key player in the squad.
The Spanish player has appeared in 21 games this season, netting seven goals and providing five assists. He is averaging 2.1 shots, 1.2 key passes, 1 dribble per game. He mainly operates as an attacking midfielder but is versatile enough to play on the wings or even as a number nine (stats via whoscored).
Olmo is not someone with great physical strength or extraordinary speed. But he is a creative mind on the field, who can open the opponent’s defence with through balls and dribbling. His shooting skills are also good, making him an ideal pick for many sides.
A perfect replacement for Bernardo Silva?
With Bernardo Silva nearing an exit at the end of the season, Manchester City are in search of bringing in his replacement. In that aspect, the acquisition of Dani Olmo would be perfect as he can be a decisive player in the final third.
It’s not hidden to anyone that Pep Guardiola is an admirer of the 25-year-old’s play. He believes the player would fit in well in the City’s system as he has good control over the ball and a sense of building attacks. His versatility will definitely make life easy for the management.
The Spanish international has a €60 million release clause in his contract. The English giant can easily manage to spend that much on him. However, they aren’t alone in the race as the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on getting his signature.
