Gabriel Martinelli, the Arsenal star, wants to focus more on scoring goals and be more selfish. He normally prefers to pass the ball, but he is now attempting to be more aggressive in attacking. His teammates encourage him to be more confident when he possesses the ball.
Gabriel Martinelli wants to be more selfish
Gabriel Martinelli revealed he wants to be more selfish infront of the goal. Instead of trying to assist someone else, he wants to go for the goal himself. Even his teammates have asked him to do so. He talked about the advice he got from Arsenal teammates Aaron Ramsdale and Jorginho on how he can get better. He mentioned this during an interview with TNT Sports.
“Well, Aaron and Jorginho said that to me in the Burnley game, even against Porto, hey, sometimes you’re too nice to the team, you want to pass. I say if I see a player in a better position, I try to pass, because if I was in that position, I’d want the ball,” Martinelli said.
“So I think that sometimes I can be a bit more greedy, but that’s up to each individual. Sometimes on the pitch it’s very fast, if you think about two things, you get confused and end up doing neither. So I think that maybe I can be a bit more greedy for myself, sometimes scoring more goals, but I think for now I’m doing what I think is right on the pitch and it’s working,” he added.

Martinelli doesn’t seem as focused on scoring this season. He’s been more willing to pass the ball to teammates, already giving five assists, only one less than last season. But he’s only scored eight goals in 32 games, so he might have to be more focused on scoring if he wants to match his 15 goals from last season.
He also spoke about his bond with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, giving him lots of praise and saying Arteta always finds solutions to the team’s issues.
