Premier League side Chelsea need to bolster their squad ahead of next season to put the best foot forward for all the titles. The club have now identified Atlanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners as a viable option and are discussing a move for him, as per Give Me Sport.
Teun Koopmeiners is effective in the final third
Passed from AZ youth academy, Teun Koopmeiners was lured away by Atalanta in the summer of 2021 for a reported fee of €12 million. Since then, he has raised his stakes and has emerged as a reliable midfielder for the Italian club.
The Dutchman has featured in 41 games this season so far, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists. He is averaging 1.4 shots, 1.3 key passes, and 0.4 dribbles per game. He plays as an attacking midfielder and can be decisive in the final third (stats via whoscored).
Koopmeiners has everything one needs to succeed as a modern-day attacking midfielder. He likes to play long passes and is dangerous while taking set-pieces. He also has the ability to long shots and is clinical with his finishes.
Will Chelsea make a move?
Chelsea are having a below-par season and they understand the need to reinforce their overall unit. They want to acquire the services of Teun Koopmeiners to add depth and firepower in the midfield, which they have been missing.
However, the signing won’t be a piece of cake as arch-rivals Liverpool are also interested in signing the midfielder. From the player’s point of view, joining the Reds seems a better move as he would be able to fight for the top titles.
The Blues, on the other hand, won’t be a part of Champions League next season. They are in a rebuilding phase and will need some time to get back onto the top. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea will make a move in the summer or not.
