In a recent report, The Sun claimed that Barcelona are showing interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. It has been stated that the Catalan club are eager to secure the services of the Swedish talent in the summer transfer window.
Isak’s Impressive Form At St. James’ Park
Isak is having a great campaign at the Tyneside club as he has put in a run of productive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. The Swedish talent has participated in 34 matches for the Magpies this season, scoring 21 goals and picking up one assist on all fronts.
The 24-year-old has been a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.5 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has also been careful when distributing possession in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 79.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at St. James’ Park will run out in the summer of 2028 which would make it tough for the Catalan giants to sign him on the cheap later this year.
What Will Isak Bring To Barcelona?
Isak can engineer some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has also got the vision to create a few decent chances for others around him in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
Standing at 1.92m, Isak can be a dominant force in the air and has proven his worth as a capable finisher in front of the opposition goal. The Swedish forward is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if told to do so.
Isak is good enough to bring more firepower to Barcelona‘s frontline as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in Spain. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the Nou Camp in the coming seasons.
Isak might even help Barca challenge for some major trophies in the future. At 24, he has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Catalan club to pursue in the upcoming transfer window.
