In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Barcelona are keen admirers of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. It has been stated that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to land the Spanish midfield ace in the summer.
Zubimendi’s Impressive Form In La Liga This Season
Zubimendi is having a decent campaign at the Spanish club as he has put in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The Spaniard has participated in 44 matches for Real Sociedad this season, netting four goals and earning one assist on all fronts.
The 25-year-old has anchored the midfield with conviction based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.8 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 86.2% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Real Sociedad will run out in the summer of 2027 which would make it difficult for the Catalan club to sign him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
Is Zubimendi A Good Option For Barcelona?
Zubimendi is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
The Spanish sensation is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. He has what it takes to be a success story at Barcelona if Xavi can devise a way to bring him on board in the upcoming transfer window.
At 25, Zubimendi is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for the Catalan club to pursue in the summer. He already knows La Liga well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Nou Camp.
We can expect him to bring more bite and steel to Xavi’s midfield. With all things considered, Zubimendi would be an excellent option for Barca to consider later this year as he could help them compete for some major trophies in the future.
