In a recent report, FC Inter News mentioned that Aston Villa are in the running to recruit Inter Milan wide player Denzel Dumfries. It has been claimed that the Villans are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Dutch talent in the summer transfer window.
Dumfries’ Impressive Run Of Form At San Siro
Dumfries is enjoying a great season at the Milan club as he has been responsible for putting in a handful of impressive performances on the right side of their midfield. The 27-year-old has scored three times and picked up six assists in 32 matches for Inter Milan during this campaign in various competitions.
The Dutch sensation has proven his worth at times on the right flank by averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 0.7 shots and 0.9 key passes per game in Serie A. He has even distributed possession relatively well in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 79.5% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at San Siro will expire in the summer of 2025 which could open the door for the Villans to seal a move for him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Go For Dumfries?
Dumfries loves a tackle and can make the odd interception for his side when he is playing well on the right flank. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and can make some driving runs with the ball as well in the opposition half.
The Dutch sensation can shoot the ball purely and with venom from long range. He is a good crosser of the ball as well from the wide areas.
Dumfries mainly functions as a right-sided wide player but can also play at right-back if told to do so. At 27, he is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for the Villans to pursue this summer.
Dumfries would bring more quality and depth to Aston Villa‘s first XI and could help Unai Emery’s team compete across all fronts in the future. Therefore, it makes sense for the West Midlands club to go for someone with his skill set and experience in the upcoming transfer window.
