In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Arsenal remain keen on recruiting Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz this summer. It is understood that the Gunners are weighing up a move to land the Brazilian talent in the upcoming transfer period.
Luiz’s Impressive Form At Villa Park This Season
Luiz is having a great campaign at the West Midlands club as he has been responsible for putting in a series of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The 25-year-old deserves a ton of credit for scoring ten goals and earning ten assists in 46 appearances for the Villans this season on all fronts.
The Brazilian midfield ace has been a decent performer at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.5 shots, 1.6 key passes, 0.9 crosses and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 89.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Luiz’s current contract at Villa Park will expire in the summer of 2026. Therefore, it won’t be easy for the Gunners to sign him on the cheap later this year.
Will Luiz Be A Dream Option For Arsenal?
Luiz is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
The Brazilian sensation can engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also function as a defensive midfielder if needed.
We can expect Luiz to add more quality to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s midfield department. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Emirates Stadium next season.
Luiz could even go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Declan Rice at the North London club in the coming years. At 25, the best is yet to come from Luiz which makes him a dream option for the Gunners to pursue at the end of this campaign.
