In a recent report, Tuttosport mentioned that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee in this summer. It has been claimed that the Gunners are eager to get a deal done for the Dutch striker in the upcoming transfer window.
Zirkzee’s Impressive Numbers In Serie A
Zirkzee is having a fruitful campaign at the Italian club as he has managed to put in a lot of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Dutch talent has participated in 34 matches for Bologna this season, finding the back of the net 12 times and earning seven assists in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a reliable performer deep inside the opposition half based on his average of 2.6 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He has even distributed possession relatively well up top, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 77.2% in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, the Gunners will have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting the Dutch centre-forward later this year.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Get Zirkzee On Board?
Zirkzee is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to orchestrate a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third and is usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area. The Dutch sensation can also use his robust 1.93m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels in the opposition half.
However, there are some concerns over whether Zirkzee can adapt to the high intensity of Premier League football if Arsenal manage to land him later this summer. Still, there is no denying that he would add more firepower to Mikel Arteta’s attack
At 22, Zirkzee has got the potential to be a future star in English football if he can mature as a footballer at the North London club under the expert tutelage of Arteta. He is more than capable of fighting for a regular first-team spot at the Emirates Stadium next season. Hence, Arteta would be wise to get him on board soon.
