In a recent print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport mentioned that Arsenal are facing tough competition for Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee. It has been stated that the Gunners would have to rival Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan in the race to land the Dutch striker this summer.
Zirkzee’s Impressive Numbers In Serie A This Season
The 22-year-old is having a decent season at the Italian club as he has been responsible for putting in a handful of productive displays for them in the final third. Zirkzee has banged in 11 goals and grabbed six assists in 31 appearances for Bologna this season in multiple competitions.
The Dutch talent has proven himself to be a valuable presence in the final third based on his average of 2.7 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 77.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Dutch club will run out in the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for the Gunners to recruit him on the cheap later this year.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Go For Zirkzee?
Zirkzee is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He can be a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing well on the pitch.
The Dutch sensation can even create some decent openings for others around him in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. Standing at 1.93m, he can use his robust frame to hold possession up for his team deep inside the opposition half.
We can expect Zirkzee to add more firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s frontline. At 22, the Bologna ace has got the potential to become a future star in English football as long as he continues to improve with each year.
All in all, the Gunners would be wise to go for Zirkzee in the summer transfer period as he could help them compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life at the North London club.
