In a recent report, Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Arsenal are among the clubs hoping to sign Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee. It has been stated that the Gunners are showing interest in bringing the Dutch striker to the Dutch striker but would face competition from AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli in pursuit of him.
Zirkzee’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Zirkzee is having a decent campaign at the Serie A club after putting in a handful of productive displays as the focal point of their attack. The Dutch attacker has featured in 33 matches for Bologna this season, banging in 11 goals and picking up six assists in various competitions.
The 22-year-old deserves a ton of credit for averaging 2.6 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opposition half based on his pass completion rate of 77.3% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2026. Therefore, it won’t be easy for the Gunners to snap him up on the cheap in the upcoming transfer period.
What Will Zirkzee Add To Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta’s Team?
Zirkzee can create some space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He has proven himself to be a capable finisher in the final third and can create the odd chance for his teammates up top. The Dutch sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. Standing at 1.93m, Zirkzee can even use his strong frame to win a few aerial duels for his team. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level.
Zirkzee would add more firepower to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s frontline. He is good enough to compete with Gabriel Jesus for a regular starting spot at the North London club next season. Plus, the Dutch talent could serve as an ideal replacement for Eddie Nketiah, who has struggled to impress this season, at the Emirates Stadium.
At 22, Zirkzee has got the potential to be a world-class striker someday as long as he continues to improve with each season. Hence, the Gunners would be wise to move in for him later this year.
