In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that West Ham United are working on a move for Sporting CP wide player Pedro Goncalves. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Portuguese winger this summer.
Goncalves’ Excellent Form In Portuguese Football This Season
The 25-year-old is enjoying a great campaign at the Portuguese club as he has put in a series of productive displays on the right side of their frontline. Goncalves has found the back of the net 15 times and earned 14 assists in 39 appearances for Sporting CP this season in all competitions.
The Portuguese sensation has been a consistent performer on the right flank based on his average of 3.0 shots, 2.1 key passes, 1.8 crosses and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He has even tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 80% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Portuguese football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Sporting will run out in the summer of 2027. Therefore, West Ham would have to make a sizable offer if they are to stand a chance of landing him later this year.
What Will Goncalves Bring To West Ham United?
Goncalves is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half.
The Portuguese talent can even chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals from the right-wing. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also serve as a left-winger or play in the number ten position if told to do so by his manager.
Goncalves will bring more firepower to West Ham‘s attack. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at the London Stadium next season if he can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football. Hence, the Hammers would be wise to go all out to bring him to East London when the transfer window reopens later this summer.
