In a recent report, Tutto Juve claimed that West Ham United are locked in a three-way battle for Juventus winger Samuel Iling-Junior. It has been stated that the Hammers could face competition in the form of Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton in pursuit of the English wide player.
Iling-Junior’s Growing Frustrations At Juventus This Season
Iling-Junior has struggled to earn a regular first-team spot at the Allianz Stadium but has managed to catch the eye at times for Juve in the final third. The English talent has been involved in 17 matches for the Italian outfit this season, netting one goal and grabbing a couple of assists in all competitions.
The 20-year-old has made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.5 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.1 dribbles per game in Serie A football. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the final third after making 76.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Turin club will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, the Hammers could potentially land him in the summer transfer window.
Is Iling-Junior A Good Signing For West Ham United?
Iling-Junior is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the vision to engineer some meaningful openings for his teammates in the final third when he is playing regularly on the field. The English wing wizard can shoot the ball with power from long range but needs to figure out a way to improve his offensive numbers if he wants to earn regular first-team starts over the next few years.
At 20, Iling-Junior has the potential to become a future star in English football as long as he continues to improve with each season. He would inject more energy and dynamism into West Ham United‘s frontline.
Iling-Junior could even help the Hammers compete across all fronts in the coming years. Thus, the East London club should consider moving in for him when the transfer window commences later this year. All in all, Iling-Junior would be a good signing for the Hammers to pul off at the end of this campaign.
