In a recent report, The Daily Mail offered an update on West Ham United and their pursuit of Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher. It has been claimed that the Blues prefer to sell the English midfielder to the Hammers over Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
Gallagher’s Season At Chelsea So Far
Gallagher is having an up-and-down season at Stamford Bridge but has managed to put in a series of influential displays at the heart of Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield. The English talent has made 36 appearances for the West London outfit during this campaign, scoring four goals and grabbing six assists in multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old deserves a ton of credit for averaging 2.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.3 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been careful when distributing the ball after completing 90.6% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the West London club will expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Hammers could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal at the end of this season.
Chelsea Prefer To Sell Gallagher To West Ham United: Big Boost For The Hammers?
Gallagher loves a tackle and can make some important interceptions for his team at the centre of the park. He can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range. The English playmaker has got the vision to cut the opposition defence open with a decisive pass on the offensive end of the field and is an energetic runner with the ball as well. The gifted talent mainly plays as a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or function in the number ten position if needed.
We can expect Gallagher to add more quality to West Ham’s midfield department. He might even help the Hammers push for European football in the coming seasons. At 24, Gallagher has got his peak years ahead of him and could be a decent signing for the East London club to pull off at the end of this campaign.
The English midfielder already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the London Stadium if West Ham can manage to win the race for his services in the summer.
