In a recent report, Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge offered an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-min Son. Bridge said,
“Yeah, still ongoing. This is a player who, let’s face it, is just brilliant on the field, but a brilliant ambassador and obviously globally, so key to the football club. He’s been a great club captain since taking over from Harry Kane. He’s come back from the Asian Cup. He was very personally disappointed with the way it was done. I don’t think he had the best relationship in the world with Jurgen Klinsmann. Maybe that’s taken him a little bit of time to come back,”
Son’s Impressive Numbers In North London This Season
Son is having another impressive campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after he produced a string of decent plays for Spurs in the final third. The 31-year-old has scored 14 goals and picked up eight assists in 26 matches for the North London outfit this season across all competitions.
The 31-year-old has been a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.4 shots, 1.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Premier League. Son has even been careful when interchanging possession with his teammates as he has completed 83.8% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Tottenham Hotspur Are In Talks To Land Son: Good Move For Both Parties?
Son remains an excellent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the final third. He is a lethal finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
The South Korea international can even create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. Son has mainly operated as a centre-forward for Tottenham this season. However, he can also function as a wide player if needed.
Son remains one of the first names in Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s teamsheet. He is still good enough to help the London giants to challenge for some major trophies in the coming seasons.
At 31, Son has still got a few good years left in him to play at a high level. Thus, it seems like a good move for both the player and the North London club to extend their time together in search of more trophies in the future.
