In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke offered an update on the future of Aston Villa playmaker Jacob Ramsey. It has been claimed that the Villans could cash in on the English attacker in the summer.
Ramsey’s Lack Of First-Team Starts In The Premier League
Ramsey is having an underwhelming campaign at Villa Park as he has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in Unai Emery’s first XI. The English sensation has scored one goal and picked up a couple of assists in 21 appearances for the Villans this season across multiple competitions.
The 22-year-old has made a lot of his appearances off the bench but has done well to average 1.2 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 81.9% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Ramsey is under contract at the Midlands club until the summer of 2027. Thus, Emery is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him at the end of this season.
Can Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Afford To Lose Ramsey?
Ramsey is a good dribbler with the ball and can strike the ball with power and precision from outside the opponent’s penalty box. He can engineer the odd chance for others around him up top. The Birmingham-born sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if required.
Ramsey has served as an important member of Aston Villa‘s match-day squad this summer. However, the lack of game time has seen his confidence take a hit. Therefore, it is only fair to the player if the Villans allow him to leave unless they are willing to promote him to their first XI next season.
At 22, Ramsey has got a bright future ahead of him. However, the West Midlands club can afford to lose him if they receive a favourable offer for his services in the upcoming transfer window. Emery would be wise to use some of the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen their attack in the summer.
