In a recent segment of the Daily Briefing, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Tottenham Hotspur remain keen admirers of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. It is understood that Spurs are eager to bring the English playmaker to the North London club in the summer.
Gallagher’s Impressive Run Of Form At Stamford Bridge
The 24-year-old is having a decent campaign at Chelsea after putting in a string of influential displays for them in the opponent’s half. Gallagher has registered four goals and grabbed six assists in 36 appearances for the Blues this season on all fronts.
The English talent has been a consistent performer at the centre of the park as he is averaging 2.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball based on his pass completion rate of 90.6% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the West London club will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Tottenham could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal at the end of this season.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Move In For Gallagher?
Gallagher loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and can shoot the ball with power from long range.
The English sensation has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates in the opposition half and can make some driving runs with the ball from midfield. He mainly plays as a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate in the number ten position or act as a holding midfielder if told to do so.
Gallagher would bring more quality and depth to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield. He is good enough to help Spurs compete across all competitions in the coming years.
At 24, Gallagher’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the North London club to consider at the end of this campaign. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adapt to Tottenham’s style of play.
Thus, it makes sense for Postecoglu to move in for Gallagher when the transfer window commences later this year. However, Spurs should only consider recruiting him if they can get him for a reduced fee in the summer.
