In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for Genoa winger Albert Gudmundsson. It has been stated that Spurs are in a good position to land the Icelandic sensation at the end of this season.
Gudmundsson’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Gudmundsson is having a good campaign at the Italian club after he managed to put in a string of impressive displays for them in the opponent’s half. The 26-year-old has featured in 29 matches for Genoa this season, scoring 12 times and earning four assists in the process across all competitions.
The Icelandic talent has been a reliable performer in the final third as he is averaging 1.8 shots, 2.4 key passes, 2.0 crosses and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 81.6% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Gudmundsson is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2027 which would make it tough for Spurs to get him on board when the transfer window reopens later this year.
What Will Gudmundsson Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Gudmundsson is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few clever runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
The Icelandic attacker is primarily a striker but can also function as a wide player on either flank if told to do so. However, he has to find a way to be more clinical in front of the opponent’s goal.
Gudmundsson would bring more firepower to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting place at the North London club in the coming years.
At 26, Gudmundsson is about to enter his prime soon which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to pursue at the end of this campaign. However, the jury is still out on whether he can adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football if Postecoglu can find a way to get a deal done for him.
